1According to the word of Ephraim it trembled. He was exalted in Israel, but he became guilty in Baal, and he died.2And now they sin more and make for themselves a molten image from their silver, like their understanding—idols, the work of craftsmen, all of it for them. They say, "Let people sacrifice; they will kiss calves."3Therefore they will be like the morning cloud and like dew that goes away early, like chaff that storms from the threshing floor and like smoke from a window.4I am the LORD your God from the land of Egypt, and a god besides me you shall not know, and there is no savior except me.5I, the LORD, knew you skillfully in the wilderness, in the land of təlābôt.6They were satisfied according to their pasture; they were sated, and their heart was lifted up—on account of this they forgot me.7And I will be to them like a lion, like a leopard by the road to Assyria.8I will meet them like a bereaved bear, and I will tear the enclosure of their heart, and I will eat them there like a lioness; the Life of the field, she will tear them.9You destroy yourself, O Israel, for your help is against me.10Where is your king of Israel then, that he might save you in all your cultic cities of refuge, and your legal judging/ruling ones, which you said, "Give me a king of Israel and chiefs"?11I gave you a king in my anger, and I took him away in my wrath.12Ephraim's bundle of iniquity is stored away; his sin.13The birth pangs of a child-bearer will come to him. He is a son not skilled, for at the divine timing he will not stand in the breaking of sons.14From the hand of Sheol I will redeem them from death; I will be your plagues, Death—I will be your destruction, Sheol. Where is compassion hidden from my eyes?15For he is a son of brothers; he will make fruitful; he will come, east wind of the LORD from the wilderness; it will rise and dry up his spring and desolate his eye. He will plunder the treasury of all desirable possessions.16Samaria shall become desolate, for she has rebelled against her God. By the sword they shall fall; their infants shall be dashed in pieces, and their pregnant women shall be ripped open.
